Final chapter of the Sisters of Bon Secours De Troyes in Limerick

Mass was celebrated in St. Pauls Nursing home on Monday 4th September to mark the final chapter of the Sisters of Bon Secours De Troyes in Limerick. The convent is now closed following the death of Sr. Breda McDermott on 23rd August 2023. Sr. Margaret Costello, from the leadership team had accompanied Sr. Breda during her final illness.

Sr. Breda had faithfully served in St. Pauls since 1977. She was well known and loved by the residents and their families. She accompanied people in the final moments before death and provided comfort and support to families. Breda’s death has marked the end of an era.

Sr. Margaret had the difficult task of closing the convent. To mark the closure of the convent and in a spirit of thanksgiving for the life and commitment of the Sisters of Bon Secours de Troyes to the residents and patients since 1965, Bishop Brendan celebrated Mass in the chapel on Monday 4th September. As Bishop Brendan offered prayers of thanksgiving for the life and dedication of the Sisters, the current owner of St. Paul’s, Ms. Daveen Heyworth pledged that under her leadership the ethos and charism of the Sisters would be continued. After Mass tea and refreshments were served.

The Mass and gathering had elements of sadness, thanksgiving and hope for the future.
