Dear Chaplains/RE Teachers,

DCEDIY and Irish Red Cross launch accommodation pledge register to support Ukrainian refugees

People will now be able to register with the Irish Red Cross to pledge accommodation and other services

Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman, T.D., and the Irish Red Cross (IRC) have today launched a pledge register which will allow people to register accommodation and other services to assist Ukrainian refugees

At the request of the Irish Government, the IRC has established and will manage the IRC Register of Pledges on https://registerofpledges.redcross.ie

Welcoming the announcement, Minister O’Gorman said, “Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Irish people have been eager to assist the humanitarian efforts in any way they can. They have been particularly generous in donating funds and supplies and have expressed a desire to offer accommodation to refugees fleeing the conflict. Today, with the Irish Red Cross, I am pleased to open a centralised pledge register. Funded by my Department, the Irish Red Cross is working with the Irish Government to organise accommodation for Ukrainian refugees expected to arrive in Ireland over the coming days and weeks. Although all offers of accommodation are hugely welcome, it’s important that people are aware that not all offers may be called upon in the immediate term. In thanking people for coming forward, I would also ask for patience as we scale up what will be an enormous logistical response.”

Commenting, Secretary General of the Irish Red Cross, Liam O’Dwyer said, “The Irish Red Cross is keen to ensure that refugees from Ukraine experience a warm welcome from communities throughout Ireland as they recover from the trauma of recent days.”

Lent 2022: The diocese is providing four opportunities which you might like to avail of to nourish and inspire you as you journey through Lent.

  1. ‘Live, Love, Lent’ Campaign

We are inviting you to journey with us this Lent.  The pastoral outreach team (Fr Chris, Aoife, Rose, Dermot, Michael along with Sr Betty, Sr Phyllis and Sharon) have put together a programme to support you throughout Lent, this includes daily thoughts, images, reflections and prayers with a different theme each week.  These are posted daily on our Diocesan Facebook page; I want to reassure you that you do not need to have a Facebook account to access these resources.  Our Facebook page is set up so that it is accessible to people who are not on Facebook; you can access our Facebook page on this link: https://www.facebook.com/dioceseoflimerick.  Be sure to check in every day.  We will have an introductory video at the start of each week explaining the theme, each day at 7am we will post an image with prayers, food for thought and/or ideas for action.  Fr Chris will then host a review of the week each Sunday evening at 8:30pm live on Facebook where we can chat and share our experiences and learning.  Again, to remind you, you do not need to subscribe to Facebook to be able to access these resources and events.  Fr Chris explains everything in this video if you would like to know more: https://fb.watch/bwt2KoKwbU/

  1. Enviro-Lenten Films

Aoife and Betty are showing 3 films in the Diocesan Centre on 3 Saturday evenings, starting this Saturday 5th March evening at 7pm.  You will need to register for these films so we can manage numbers and catering.  I have attached a poster (Attachment 1).  You can register at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Enviro-LentenFilms

If you want to get sense of the films here are links to their trailers:

Sr Betty Baker has kindly compiled prayers of the faithful resources for Lent.  These include prayers of the Faithful from First Sunday of Lent to Corpus Christi and for International Women's Day (8th March), Mother's day (27th March), Earth Day (22 April).  I attached them to last week’s Weekly Connect. If you missed them, please contact me directly.

To conclude … As we move towards the feat of St. Patrick …

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

From St. Patrick's Breastplate is a popular prayer attributed to one of Ireland’s most beloved patron saints.
