Today, on the Feast of All Saints, Pope Leo XIV will proclaim Saint John Henry Newman a Doctor of the Church during Mass in Saint Peter’s Square, Vatican City, as part of the Jubilee of the World of Education.

Representing the Irish Bishops’ Conference will be Bishops Brendan Leahy, Fintan Monahan, and Paul Connell, along with Rev. Professor Eamonn Conway of Tuam.

The Irish bishops had supported the petition for Newman's recognition, highlighting his profound theological insight and his place among the church's greatest teachers during his time as the first Rector of the Catholic University of Ireland, Dublin.
