Bishop Leahy congrats Rt Revd Bishop Burrows on election

Bishop of Limerick Brendan Leahy has congratulated Rt Revd Bishop Michael Burrows on his election as Church of Ireland Bishop of the newly United Dioceses of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe.

Welcoming the appointment, Bishop Leahy said: “I am delighted with the news of Bishop Michael Burrows’ election as Bishop of the newly united Dioceses of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe. I look forward very much to welcoming him to Limerick where I know he will be received with great affection by the people of the Diocese as he succeeds Bishop Kenneth Kearon, who retired some months ago.

“I have known Bishop Michael for many years through ecumenical commitments but, in particular, in recent years when both he and I co-operated closely in the arranging of the annual conversation-meeting between the Church of Ireland House of Bishops and the Irish Bishops Conference. Bishop Michael is a man of enthusiasm, great pastoral experience and vitality. I have always enjoyed engaging conversations with Bishop Michael on a wide variety of topics. He brings new ideas and perspectives that he enjoys teasing out with others.

“I look forward now to even closer collaboration, mindful of the Synodal pathway that prompts us all to keep in touch especially with our sisters and brothers of other churches. I wish Bishop Michael well as he takes on a challenging new role – to be the first Bishop of the newly united Dioceses of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe in a time of transition and new ways for them.”
