29 th Sunday - Year B
S: Good morning - Today is Mission Sunday and it’s a day when we support in prayer and other ways, men and women who have given their lives in the service of faith and justice all over the world.
B: Mission Sunday also reminds us who are Christian, that we need to know Jesus and make him known. All of us have a mission whether it be as parents or teachers, carers or Religious and each of us has an opportunity to make Jesus’ message of Love real.
S: Okay a little bit of humour and you might just remember when you
hear this story that what we say is not always what is heard so
keep the message simple…
A man was stumbling through the woods totally drunk when he came upon a preacher baptizing in the river.
He proceeded to walk into the water and bumped in to the preacher. The preacher turns around and is almost overcome by the smell of alcohol. He asks the drunk “Are you ready of find Jesus?” The drunk replies “I am”.
Whereupon the preacher grabs him and dunks him in the water. He pulls up the drunk and asks, “Brother, have you found Jesus?” The drunk replies, “No I haven’t found Jesus.” The preacher dunks him in the water for a little longer this time, pulls him out and again asks, “Have you found Jesus, my brother?” The drunk replies, “no I haven’t found Jesus.”
Frustrated the preacher pushes him under the water and this time keeps him underneath for 30 seconds, pulling him up only when he begins to kick his legs and wave his arms.
The preacher once more asks the drunk “for the love of God have you found Jesus?” The drunk wipes his eyes, catches his breath and says to the preacher “Are you sure this is where he fell in?”
B: So keep the message simple.
