22 nd Sunday - Year B

S: Good morning - today we’re very conscious that many of our young people have just gone back to school or are going back tomorrow - so I’m sure it’s a hectic time for many households at the moment and maybe some of our young people are a bit anxious about what’s ahead.

B: It’s the beginning of a new school year - new teachers, new subjects and sometimes new faces. Seamus, I think for the first time in a few years this does not apply to you.

S: That’s right, yes Brenda, I have just finished a wonderful six year stint at Castletroy College as Chaplain and I have just begun a new job as Chaplain with the defence forces. I am temporarily based at Custume Barracks in Athlone, but I hope to be moving a bit closer to home fairly soon! Anyway, back to education……

B: Yes….. Schools are places of education and they’re also places where we learn about life, about respect for each other and about being ourselves. This summer I was very fortunate to experience missionary work in Brazil while visiting my uncle, Fr. John Cribbin. Where seeing how he saw the dignity in others helped them to develop their talents and their communities.

We have a reflection for you this morning called “Be strong and don’t give up”

S: Remember ….

There is a deeper strength

and an amazing abundance of peace available to you.

Draw from this well;

call on your faith to uphold you.

Realise that life is a series of levels,

cycles of ups and downs –

some easy, some challenging.

Through it all, we learn;

we grow strong in faith;

we mature in understanding.

The difficult times are often the best teachers,

and there is good to be found in all situations.

Reach for the good.

Be strong, and don’t give up.

B: So again, good luck to everyone going back to School this week. By the way don’t forget next Sunday the annual Harvest Fair takes place at Milford Care Centre.

You’ve been listening to "Just a thought" with Brenda Cribbin...

S: and Seamus Madigan. We can be contacted through the Limerick Diocesan Offices at Henry Street. You can also download your own copy of this reflection by clicking on limerickdiocese.org

B: We look forward to your company again next week, so take care...

S & B: Bye
