15 th Sunday - Year B
S: Good morning - today we’re on about how God asks us to be real, not to take ourselves too seriously and to tell the story of God through our lives.
B: Our word of life for today comes from Mark’s Gospel “Jesus summoned the 12 and began to send them out in pairs, he instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a shepherd’s staff.
S: Brenda, I’m sure a lot of people are like myself at this time - when you’re planning to go on holidays and you get your ticket and see that your baggage allowance is only 15 Kg’s and you wonder how on earth are you going to stick to 15 Kg’s !
And here you have Jesus sending out the disciples and telling them their baggage allowance is no Kg’s!
B: Well, whatever about your baggage allowance I think the message here is simplicity - the less baggage we carry with us in our lives the better - the more available we will be to other people to witness how God is in our lives and knowing that Jesus didn’t choose people of noble birth or super intelligence to make known his message - maybe we need to lighten up and laugh at our selves now and again.
S: I have a reflection this morning called “Lord, teach us to laugh”
Surely you must be amused
at the foolish things we do, O Lord.
Teach us how to laugh at ourselves,
at the petty things that come between us.
There would be less anger and agony
if there were more laughter,
if we took some things less seriously,
if we learnt how to tolerate the slip of the tongue
or the slight misunderstanding,
even the little faults and failings,
the oddities and idiosyncrasies of each other.
Make our laughter the laughter of love,
that becomes a hymn of thanksgiving and praise
to you for making our love ever more real
and our relationships ever more meaningful.
B: You’ve been listening to "Just a thought" with Brenda Cribbin...
