13 th Sunday - Year B
S: Good morning - today we’re on about healing and if there’s one thing that grabs people’s attention - its that word “healing” because everyone’s looking for healing for one thing or another.
A: Some times healing can be found in very simple things like taking a break or going for a walk or the simple touch of a friend or a handshake that says “I care”.
S: The touch of a handshake reminds me of the sign of peace at Mass and of the lady who thought to herself “Why can’t it be like it was? A person could come in and sit down in the Church and not be bothered by anyone, I’d say my own prayers, do my own thing - the Priest did his job and I did mine. Now we’re asked to turn around and look at each other and shake hands.”
A: I’d suppose it is difficult to turn around and come face to face with the people you are praying with - people who might have worries or different problems - I guess it would be so much easier to stay in our own world and not put in or out with them. And just as Jesus still turns around, looks and listens - he asks us to do the same.
S: You know Brenda, one place where I’m sure people are very aware of what’s going on around them is in the Hospital - you watch every move and all the verbal and non-verbal communication - our senses are very much heightened and this following prayer this morning is for those of you who are awaiting an operation.
O God, You understand my feelings at this moment;
You know my fears and my nervousness;
You know the thoughts that I cannot put into words.
I thank You for all the skill and wisdom of the surgeon,
the anaesthetist and the nursing staff.
Give them Your strength during al their work today,
and help me to place myself in their hands.
I now place myself confidently in Your loving hands,
knowing that nothing can separate me from
Your love in Christ Jesus.
Like my Saviour long ago, I say to You,
“Father, into Your hands I commit myself
... may your will be done.”
