Pentecost Sunday - Year B
S: Good morning - today is Pentecost Sunday, where we celebrate the great gift of the Holy Spirit in our lives. You know the Holy Spirit isn’t something that comes to us for Confirmation and goes away again - he is with us always.
B: Speaking of confirmations - congratulations to all the boys and girls who have made their confirmation this year - our word of life for today is really a prayer for you, “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love”.
S: I guess the Holy Spirit is really someone we take for granted - and a bit like a telephone, the mystery of how it works is beyond most of us - pulse or tone, fibre or cable - it doesn’t matter as long as mother is on the other end of the line. The Holy Spirit is really the power behind our prayer and brings meaning to our sometimes messy lives.
B: This morning’s reflection is an extract from a poem written by Tony O’Shaughnessy from Reen’s pike, Ardagh - its called “To find yourself in a beautiful world”
Stop look and listen, to the world around you,
With beauty and nature that’s all about you,
To walk through the fields, the Spring morning air,
Feel the gentle breeze that flows through your hair.
God is working through us, he is our only cure,
Didn’t he send the Holy Spirit, just to make sure,
The answer is to change and do your best,
Go from negative to positive, God will do the rest.
We’re only in this world, for a short little while,
We might as well live it right and do it in style,
Remember the commandments and the Man up above,
We can walk through this world, and fill it with love.
S: You’ve been listening to "Just a thought" with Seamus Madigan...
