Fifth Sunday of Easter - Year B

S: Good morning – today we’re on about being connected to each other and to God.

B: Our word of life for today comes from John’s Gospel, “I am the Vine – you are the branches”. John wants us to realise that we all come from God and that whoever or whatever we are – our life, our energy our being all comes from God. I guess it’s easy at times to forget this so we need reminders like this morning.

S: You know its only in the past 40 years that we have been able to view the planet that we call home – I often think I would love to be an astronaut and to see the earth from space. One member of the original mission to the moon in 1969 Russell Shwykart even had a religious conversion – such beauty he claimed could not be accidental. The irony was that the space race was brought about by Superpower rivalries even when at ground level there were wars, racism and Religious Conflicts – Today’s Gospel invites us to look beyond the divisions caused by our limited horizons whatever our creed or colour that we look towards Jesus, the vine and the source of unity.

B: Our Reflection this morning is called “You are not alone”

You’re not alone when trouble comes and you heart is beating like a drum.

You’re not alone through sorrow’s night when nothing seems to go just right.

The Saviour waits to hear from you and give you strength for all you do.

He knows the secrets of your heart and He can make you fears depart.

S: You’re not alone without a guide – He sees each tear you’ve ever cried.

God comforts those who seek His way and knows our hearts before we pray.

His perfect peace and endless love fall like feathers from above.

There is no cross too large to bear – you’re not alone for Christ is there!

B. You’ve been listening to “Just a thought” with Brenda Cribbin
