Easter Sunday - Year B

S: Good morning - and a very happy Easter to you - today is a day of new life, of hope, of joy. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and we hear, after our 40 days of lent, the words Gloria & Alleluia.

B: Today is also traditionally the day for Easter Eggs. Eggs remind us of the new life that is present for all of us in the resurrection of Jesus. In pre-Christian time, eggs were a symbol of fertility, and people presented them to one another at the beginning of spring. During the Middle Ages, the eating of eggs was prohibited during Lent. So, on Easter morning, Christians would give eggs to one another to celebrate the breaking of the Lenten fast. The egg became the symbol of the tomb from which Christ emerged, calling us all to resurrection and new life.

S: Brenda – I see you’ve become a bit of an eggspert!!

Seriously though today is a joyful day when we are reminded really that Jesus brings hope and life into our lives - that suffering is not the end and I’d like to read you a little poem called “Each day you Live”

Each day you live be grateful you are alive another day...

Take time to gather flowers in abundance to give away.

Give flowers to the living, we were taught long ago.

Speak while they can hear you, if you love them, tell them so.

Seek no one out to slander or to ridicule their name...

We all belong to Jesus and He loves each one the same.

Do what you can for others, hear their distressful cry...

God sees how we treat others, He knows when we pass them by.

Never leave kind words unspoken, greet each one with a smile...

Each day will grow brighter, each day more worthwhile.

B: Maybe we could try to see today as a new start for us, where we could try to see the beauty in every person, every situation and in the world around us.

S: You’ve been listening to “Just a thought” with Seamus Madigan…….

S& B: Bye ………
