Palm/Passion Sunday - Year B

S: Good morning - Today is Palm Sunday, the day, which marks the beginning of Holy Week. Palm’s are blessed in our Churches today and people hold them in their hands to commemorate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

B: Jesus knew the difficulties that lay ahead of him in Jerusalem and yet he continued on right into the city, when the easier option would have been to go around it and avoid the pain ahead.

S: We hear this story again today - a story we know as the Passion of Jesus. In other words today is the day of the long Gospel and we are reminded through it of the humility of Jesus - even to accepting death - death on a cross.

B: It takes great courage, doesn’t it, to be able to face or take on board something difficult. How many of us prefer to avoid the hard things in life even if we know they are right.

S: That’s a great challenge Brenda, isn’t it, to be able to do the right thing especially when it is difficult. We’re all gifted in our own special way - I’m unique in all the world - there’s nobody like me, and my contribution in my own world towards doing the right thing, is as special as I am, and we need to be brave to live this out.

B: We have a reflection this morning on Self-worth, it’s called “I’m Special”

I’m special. In all the world there is nobody like me. Since the beginning of time there has never been another person like me. Nobody has my smile. Nobody has my eyes, my nose, my hair, my hands, my voice. I’m special. Nobody anywhere has my tastes for food or music or art. No one sees things just as I do.

I’m special. And I’m beginning to realise it’s no accident that I’m special. I’m beginning to see that God made me special for a very special purpose. He must have a job for me that no one else can do as well as I. Out of all the billions of applicants, only one is qualified, only one has the right combination of what it takes. That one is me. Because ...... I’m special
