Fourth Sunday of Lent - Year B

S: Good morning - and a very happy Mother’s Day to all the Mammies listening this morning.

B: Our word of life for today comes from John 3-16, the poster often seen at matches in Ireland, “God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that those who believe in him may not be lost but may have eternal life.” What it’s really saying is that God loves us beyond out wildest dreams – just like a mothers love.

S: So today we thank God for mothers and the lucky among us can express our gratitude and appreciation in person today - we will call to say hello, send cards flowers or make phone calls from across the miles. The lot of others may be a graveside prayer or a happy memory triggered by today.

B: Mothers day does bring us in touch with the wonder of being alive - we can be thankful today for the gift of life and in particular for the qualities of our personalities which we got from God through our mothers - so thanks to all the Mum’s

S: Our reflection this morning is called “A Mothers Love” and was written by Helen Steiner Rice”

A Mother’s Love is something that no one can explain,

It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain,

It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may

For nothing can destroy it or take that love away …

It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking,

And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking

It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns

And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems

It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation,

And it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation

A many splendoured miracle man cannot understand

And another wondrous evidence of God’s tender guiding hand.
