Seventh Sunday - Year B

S: Good morning - today we’re on about the importance of not being too proud to accept each other’s help. Can you think of a situation where you weren’t able to do something and had to ask for help?

B: I guess for some people that can be a hard thing to do at times - It takes a lot to admit that you can’t do something or aren’t able to do something. Our word of life for today comes from Marks Gospel which tells the story of the paralysed man being lowered through the roof of a house to be healed by Jesus with the words ‘your sins are forgiven, get up, pick up your stretcher and walk home.’

S: These are powerful words really, that the poor man in the stretcher heard. Powerful because they freed his life on two levels - he was free to walk and free to love. Mind you Brenda, I wonder did he go back to help fix the roof? Anyway that’s not the point - the point is that he was prepared to accept help.

B: So this morning, remember anybody you know who is sick either at home or in the hospital or is in a situation where they have to accept the help of others. Our reflection this morning is called Give Me Strength.

S: Give me strength, Dear Lord of Mercy, to endure my trials of life;

Give me strength, to suffer hardships – strength, to suffer grief and strife; Let me – never yield to struggles,

Trust and faith I have in You;

Give me strength, not to waver in the trials I suffer through.

Many times, my faith is tested by the grief I’m made to bear;

Trust is challenged – by my heartaches;

Faith – by my unanswered prayers;

Give me strength, in all such moments,

To be strong and Christian, true – with a trust that does not waver

And a faith forever true.
