Second Sunday, Year B

S: Good morning - today to start with I’d like to say a word of thanks to all of you who listen in every Sunday morning to our little thought for the week.

B: You know Seamus over the last few weeks we’ve got some very positive feedback - which is nice - so thank you and keep listening.

S: So on to our Word of Life which comes from St John’s Gospel where Jesus asks the question “What do you want?” - It’s a very profound question really isn’t it? and I suppose at first glance we could give some very quick and maybe simplistic answers, but the question again is what do you really want?

B: It would take a bit of time really to come up with an answer for that question. At the moment I’m conscious of the thousands of students here in Limerick who are about to start their exams and I’m sure they all want to do well, but maybe being under pressure, they may not know what they want and we’ll certainly keep them in our thoughts and prayers for the next week or two.

S: A hospital Chaplain was visiting an elderly woman and agreed to pray with her so that she might make a speedy recovery to good health.

“Dear God” he began, “if it is your will to restore Mrs Doyle to her former health ...”

... as he was praying he felt a tug on his arm, so he stopped mid sentence.

“Excuse me Father,” said the old lady, “but I’d be grateful if you’d call me Lizzie, you see he won’t know me by my married name!”

I love that piece, because I thought that the elderly woman was going to say “what do you mean if its God’s will to restore me to full health”.

I guess we can never really know what’s on other people’s minds, and that’s why Jesus asks us “What do you want?”

B: So best of luck to all the students and I hope that the exams go o.k. Before we go we would like to remind you of the wonderful work done by the Limerick Diocesan Pastoral Centre. They run so many courses and support groups through centres in Abbeyfeale, Kilmallock, Newcastle West and Limerick City. Wouldn’t it be a good New Year treat to yourself to decide to get involved in one of these courses. For further information Tel. 061-400133

S: You’ve been listening to “Just a thought” with Seamus Madigan...

B: and Brenda Cribbin. We can be contacted through the Limerick Diocesan Offices at 66 O’ Connell Street or by e-mailing smadigan@limerickdiocese.org. If you would like your own copy of this reflection you can download it by clicking on limerickdiocese.org

B: We look forward to your company again next week, so take care…..

S& B: Byee……….
