20th November 2005 – Christ the King, Year A
S: Good morning
Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. Here, Jesus is quick to tell us his kingdom is not of this world - if fact its not even a place, but a people.
B: In fact our word of life for today gives us some indication as to what he means - it comes from Matthew’s Gospel "whatever you did to the least of my brothers and sisters, you did to me."
S: So, Jesus is about people and how we respect each other and he asks us to look for him in places where we might never expect to find him.
B: So how we treat each other is at the core of what Jesus expects from us ... Seamus, you’ve a nice poem this morning on how a bit of TLC (Tender Loving Care)is at the heart of it all.
S: Search out a forgotten friend. Mend a quarrel.
Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust.
Write a love letter. Share some treasure.
Give it a soft answer. Encourage youth.
Manifest your loyalty in a word or deed.
Keep a promise. Find the time.
Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy.
Listen. Apologise if you were wrong.
Try to understand. Flout envy.
Examine your demands on others.
Think first of someone else.
Appreciate, be kind, be gentle.
Laugh a little more. Deserve confidence.
Take up arms against malice.
Decry complacency. Express your gratitude.
Worship your God. Gladden the heart of a child.
Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth.
Speak you love. Speak it again.
Speak it still once again.
B: I guess what we have to remember is the heart of God’s kingdom is people - people who are trying to love, forgive and be reconciled with each other.
