23 rd October 2005 – 30 th Sunday, Year A
S: Good morning, today we’re on about love and is it my imagination or are there a lot of weddings on at the moment, certainly I know I’m involved in quite a few. I had a wedding last weekend and another one next weekend!
B: Lucky you!!!! Our word of live for today comes from Matthews Gospel, “You must love the Lord Your God with all your heart and your neighbour as yourself”. So best wishes to everyone getting married at this time of year and in the near future.
S: I’d like to tell you a story that I sometimes tell at weddings re: Child & Mum
A child asked its mum, where does Holy God Live?
The mum took the child by the hand and said, come on, I’ll show you and took the child to the village well. “Down there”, said the mother, “that’s where Holy God lives”. She held the child, ever so carefully over the edge of the well to look down. As the water settled at the bottom of the well, what did the child see……. But it’s own reflection….
And that’s where Holy God lives. God lives in me and God lives in you. And I believe God is present in a very special and powerful way in the meeting of you and me, especially if that meeting is characterised by love, patience, forgiveness, joy ……….
B: If we truly believe that God is love – then we will want to be in a loving relationship with him and with our neighbour – this love demands sacrifice, but then again so does anything worthwhile in our lives.
Now, for any of you who might be planning to get married you may not be aware that ‘Accord’, the Catholic marriage advisory agency, have a new website at www.gettingmarried.ie This is a very practical site and I’m sure many couples will find is very useful.
S: Now, I would like to remind you about the second of three workshops based on the pastoral by Bishop Donal Murray called “Thirsting for God” takes place tomorrow evening at 8pm in the Woodlands House Hotel in Adare. This pastoral of Bishop Murray’s is a reflection on the Eucharist. The purpose of these workshops is to respond and reflect on this pastoral as we come to the end of ‘The Year of the Eucharist’.
So that’s the Woodlands House Hotel in Adare at 8pm. And all are welcome.
B Before we go, I would like to let you know about a workshop on the Enneagram which takes place in the Pastoral Centre on Friday evening and all day Saturday on the 11 th and 12 th of November.
Also, as the Year of the Eucharist comes to a close the Pastoral Centre are running an art competition on the theme of the Eucharist. This is open to all second level students either through their school or parish. There is a prize fund of €500.
