15th Sunday – Year A
10th July 2005

S: Good morning today we’re on about the influence that we all have on each other and hopefully its for the good.

B: Our word of life for today revolves around the story of the sower going out to sow seed and we learn that the best place to plant seed, is in rich soil, according to an African proverb “the best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago, and the next best time is now”.
Next month thousands of young people will be gathering in Colonge for the World Youth Days. Many of these young people had the seed of faith sown by their parents and godparents over 20 years ago. At the world youth day they will share their faith, traditions, languages, values, customs and good humour, a group will also be travelling from Limerick and isn’t it great to see faith being expressed in such a way. We wish them all a safe journey, that next month 14th – 22nd August.

S: So then – a few questions for you this morning. Who was Albert Einsteins Math’s teacher? Or Sonia O’Sullivan’s coach? Who was Bono’s music tutor? Or Pope Benedict’s religion teacher? The answer is we don’t know, but we are eternally grateful. So never underestimate, play down or disregard the job you do or the family you rear, they can be the nursery bed for seeds of future greatness.

B: Our Reflection this morning is dedicated to all those who try to make their dreams a reality

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.

And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
