14th Sunday - Year A
3rd July 2005

S: Good morning. This weekend our thoughts turn to the North of Ireland. This time of year I know it can be a difficult time for the ordinary people there.

B: You know Seamus, sometimes with all the talk of Politicians and the various parties we might forget about the people who actually live in what can sometimes be very difficult situation. You only have to think of the McCartney sisters. These situation can sometimes be experienced as hurt and disappointment even fear and anger.

S: That’s true. Well, our Word of Life for today comes from The Beatitudes, “Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God”.

B: Every one of the eight beatitudes that Jesus proclaimed in the Sermon on the Mount are for all people and for all times. But there are times in which one word speaks louder than another.
In the 13th Century St Francis of Assisi brought to the foreground the blessing on the poor..... remember his prayer “Lord make me an instrument of your peace”.

S: .... and in the 19th Century many saints and visionaries called new attention to the blessing on the pure of heart. We hope that this century is the century of the peacemakers. Hopefully we will continue the efforts of the past century especially those who gave themselves for the cause of peace.
And thinking of Peace in a special way this weekend, we remember all those people who are working so hard to make the dream of peace a reality and we dedicate the following reflection to them.

B: GATHER THE DREAMERS
Gather the dreamers and wake the sleeping
now is the time to give birth to the dream.
Gather the dreamers, a new day is dawning,
the time is now and the earth is calling our name.

Peacemakers gather and teach forgiveness
link hands through all lands in a circle of peace.
Peacemakers gather, a new day is dawning,
the time is now and the earth is calling our name.

S: You’ve been listening to "Just a thought" with Seamus Madigan..
