D: Good morning - and a very happy Easter to you. It is Easter Weekend - a weekend of hope, of flowers and candles, new colour and new light. Allelulia!!
B: and also a day of Easter Eggs, big dinners and family gatherings. Today we celebrate when Jesus rose from the dead, a day of great joy when the women arrived at the tomb to find it empty. This is the great hope for us who are Christian – that the death of anyone is not the end. Our Easter belief is that for those who have died ‘life is changed, not ended’.
D: It is also our Easter belief as Christians that whatever is dead within us is not the full story either – that whatever tragedy or horrible experiences we have had in life that this is not where the story ends – we learn from the terrible things that may have happened to us in the past and we move forward to try and create a more truthful, hope-filled and better world.
So it’s a day of beginnings - Brenda you have a reflection for us this morning called ‘Help Us to Believe in Beginnings’.
B: God of history and of my heart,
So much has happened to me during these whirlwind days.
I’ve know death and birth
I’ve been brave and scared
I’ve hurt, I’ve helped
I’ve been honest, I’ve lied
I’ve destroyed, I’ve created
I’ve been with people, I’ve been lonely
I’ve been loyal, I’ve betrayed
I’ve decided, I’ve waffled
I’ve laughed and I’ve cried
You know my frail heart and my frayed history -
and now another day begins.
O God, help me to believe in beginnings
and in my beginnings again,
no matter how often I’ve failed before.
Help me to believe in beginnings
to make a beginning
to be a beginning
so that I may not just grow old
but may enjoy
each day of this wild amazing life
you call me to live
With the passion of Jesus Christ. Amen
