FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

YEAR A – 2nd March 2008

D: Good morning, we’d like to begin this weekend by wishing all mothers a very Happy Mothers Day.

B: Our word of life this weekend revolves around the story of the blind man who in the end said “Lord I believe”. In this story we hear of plenty of how the Pharisees were trying to undermine Jesus, and yet it was the uneducated man who had a disability and seems to have been classed as an outsider who was able to say “Lord I believe”. The real miracle here is that it was the man born blind who saw what the religious experts failed to see.

D: Being born blind is a great tragedy – an even greater tragedy is that which could be called Spiritual blindness. The choice is ours – do we choose the way of the Pharisee, ignoring the reality of Gods presence, blind to his life and love or do we choose the way of the blind man, opening our eyes to the wonders of Gods love?

B: And one of the ways that we’ve all experienced the wonder of God’s love has been through our mothers – so today is a special day when we all have the opportunity to think of our mothers. We thank God for their lives and the great love they share. Our Reflection this morning is simply called “Mothers”.

D: O God of Grace and love, in thankfulness for all that you have given us through the loving care and hard work of our own mothers, we pray for your richest blessing upon all mothers:

For those with difficult homes, whose children’s behaviour is more of a problem than a blessing;

For those who find it hard to make ends meet, or go short themselves for the sake of their families;

For those who are nearly at the end of their tether;

For those mothers who are trying to make Christ real to their families;

For each one according to her need, hear our prayer, and draw all mothers closer to you today.

Amen.

D: You have been listening to ‘Just a Thought’ with Seamus Madigan

B: and Brenda Cribbin. We can be contacted through the Limerick Diocesan Offices at Henry Street. Remember you can also print out your own copy of this thought by clicking on www.limerickdiocese.org
