30th TH SUNDAY YEAR C

28 th October 2007

D: Good morning. As winter darkness closes in and Oiche Shamhna, Halloween, All Hallows Eve heralds the beginning of the dark half of the year

B: In Christian tradition we celebrate on November 1 st the feast of All Hallows….All Saints… men and women, holy ones all, too many to number, who have lived the gospel of life and love through the ages… and not only those who have been canonised by the church.

D: Among them people we have too known, friends and family members…people of such goodness, that have touched our lives and are now gone before us. These holy ones stand in the presence of God and whisper in his ear, a prayer on our behalf. We have close friends at court as it were, never ceasing to intercede for us….in great communion with us…the communion of saints

B: In our darkness and in our difficulty, they are as guiding lights, willing us to follow in their steps, to follow Christ, in the way of holiness, the way of wholeness…

D: Let us all rejoice in the Lord and keep a feast in honour of the Saints. Let us join with the Angels in joyfull praise to the Son of God…May their prayers bring you God’s forgiveness and love, this day and always.

B: Our reflection this morning is called “Open my eyes”

God open my eyes so I may see and feel your presence close to me

Give me strength for my stumbling feet

As I battle the crowd on life’s busy street,

And widen the vision of my unseeing eyes

So in passing faces I’ll recognise;

Not just a stranger, unloved and unknown,

But a friend with a heart that is much like my own.

Give me perception to make me aware

That scattered profusely on life’s thoroughfare

Are the best Gifts of God that we daily pass by

As we look at the world with an unseeing eye.

d: You’ve been listening to ‘Just a thought’ with David Bracken
