| 27 TH SUNDAY YEAR C
7 th October 2007
D: Good morning. Today we share with you a word about faith. Now being faithful to God is difficult and at times even causes us anguish anguish .
B: Our word of life for this weekend comes from Luke’s Gospel, where the apostles said to Jesus, ‘Increase our faith.’ It’s a cry which comes from the very depths of our being, it’s a calling out to God for some kind of understanding. Understanding of a situation or experience that just possibly makes no sense to me.
D: You’ve heard it said ….you’ve said it yourself “God, why is this happening to me or why is this happening to us ? ”. We can all of us think of experiences that fall into that category “Why do bad things happen to good people”. A question that we all grapple with and sometimes not without a little guilt. - as if somehow it’s not proper to question the ways of God, not quite right to argue with God...
B: You know we have a long religious history of relationship with God and it has taught us that growth in faith takes place in the context of openness to:
My experience and my openness to God. That relationship of openness, like any relationship which is open and honest will have its moments of friction.
D: When I pray for an “increase of faith” as the Apostles did, I am asking that I might be open and honest to the life of God in and around me. And that, the gift of faith which is available to everyone might be real for me.
