| 26TH SUNDAY YEAR C
30 th September 2007
D: Good morning. Today we are speaking about the importance of sharing and the kind of world we would like to live in.
B: Our word of life for today comes from Luke’s Gospel.
“There lay a poor man called Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to fill himself with the scraps that fell from the rich mans table”.
The difficulty here is not that the rich man did anything wrong – it is that he failed to do any good in the situation with which he was faced.
D: We each one of us are presented with everyday situations where we can do good. And at times it’s easier to ignore these opportunities. Getting involved can just be too much. Jesus asks us, through the story of Lazarus; what kind of world do we want to live in? A hassle free world where we ignore the needs of others or do we engage with the other and his or her needs?
B: Jesus is telling us that charity needs to be proactive – that we need to be concerned for the needs of those around us. There is a great tradition in Ireland of helping out when we are asked to, and I see this with the Hospice coffee mornings, collections for various good causes. Do keep up the generosity.
So, David – you have a reflection for us.
D: God our Father,
Open our eyes to see your hand at work
In the splendour of creation.
In the beauty of human life.
Touched by your hand our world is holy.
Help us to cherish the gifts that surround us,
To share your blessings with our sisters and brothers.
And to experience the joy of life in your presence.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
B: You’ve been listening to “Just a thought” with Brenda Cribbin
