The Body and Blood of Christ - Year C

S: Good morning - today we keep the feast of the body and blood of Christ and we remind ourselves that when we celebrate Mass we celebrate all that we have to be thankful for in our lives.

B: Our Churches are meant to be places of welcome and we are reminded of this in Luke’s Gospel when we hear the words “Jesus made the crowds welcome”, and we Irish have been known worldwide for our welcome – the Céad Mile Failte.

S: Our hope this morning is that the Céad Mile Failte will be extended to all in our churches and places of prayer. Bishop Murray’s Lenten pastoral brought out a few months ago reminded us to pay special attention to the welcome we give to people in Church. I suppose a day like today offers us the opportunity to reflect on how good we are at this.

B: I guess it’s the lack of this experience of welcome that has seen many people leave our churches and there is a challenge here for all of us to try our best to make our church a welcoming community.

S: Our Reflection this morning speaks of the need in all of us to have a quiet space and it’s called “We sometimes need to get away”.

We sometimes need to get away from the noise and the crowd

To find a place of solitude where distractions aren’t allowed.

We sometimes need a hiding place where others will not trod,

So we can rest and meditate upon the things of God.

Sometimes we all grow weary in our struggle to survive,

But as we pause to seek His face, we’re glad that we’re alive.

A candle burned at both ends creates a lovely light,

But too soon the flame’s extinguished – it will not last the night.

We sometimes need to get away to rest, perhaps to nod,

For then we hear the still, small voice which speaks the things of God.

B: You’ve been listening to “Just a thought” with Brenda Cribbin
