Trinity Sunday - Year C
S: Good morning - today is Trinity Sunday a day is which we celebrate God as Father, Son & Holy Spirit
B: Our word of life for today comes from John’s Gospel “The Spirit of truth will lead you to the complete truth” - and the Spirit of God does transform us in ways that are very powerful. People can see the merciful face of God in us. We celebrate today the love we experience from the people God has put into our lives.
S: God is about relationships and the relationship of Father, Son and Holy Spirit with us is a source of joy, simply being together in most cases is a reason to be happy. The God in heaven we rely upon depends on us to show his presence here on earth. It was during Mass on Trinity Sunday that St Therese of Lisieux experienced God’s merciful love. In her own words she said, “I received the grace to understand more than ever before how much Jesus desires to be loved”.
B: Today Blessed Charles of Mount Argus will be canonized a Saint in Rome. Blessed Charles was a Dutch man, born in 1821. He was a member of the Passionist Order. He spent part of his priestly ministry in Dublin at Mount Argus and it was in the confessional and comforting the sick that he excelled. He was fond of the Irish and called them “my people”.
S: It was his gift of healing the sick for which he is best remembered. As many as three hundred people a day came to be blessed by him. During the last years of his life he had many trials, ill health and being anxious about death being among them. He died in Dublin on 5 th January 1893. His funeral was one of the largest ever seen in Dublin and to this day his remains are kept in Mount Argus.
B. This is the official prayer for the intercession of St. Charles
Eternal Father, you called Saint Charles of Mount Argus
To bring the Good News to the poor
and to heal the broken hearted;
you opened his eyes to see
the presence of Christ crucified in those who suffer.
Through his intercession, may we come to know
your compassionate love for us,
by experiencing the blessing of your healing power,
through Christ Our Lord,
Amen.
