Third Sunday of Easter - Year C

S: Good Morning - on this 3rd Sunday of Easter, the question is put to us, “Do you love Jesus?” and isn’t it an appropriate enough question in this Christian Era. Well……. are we to remain silent or do we answer the question?

B: This question and our word of life come from John’s Gospel, where Peter wants to go back to his old way of life as a fisherman and the other disciples want to go with him. And while out fishing Jesus asks Peter “Do you love me?” In this question, Jesus is trying to encourage Peter to stay in the present and continue the work they had been doing up to Good Friday.

S: The question is so important that Jesus repeats it three times, “Peter do you love me?” I guess Jesus is spelling out the seriousness of his message, a message of love, love which calls the believer forward to do the best we can for others and this morning we have a reflection for you, it’s really a prayer to the Holy Spirit to help us move forward.

B: Come, O Holy Spirit into our hearts;

Fill us with kindness and understanding,

With wisdom and love, that we may be good people

That we may have the strength and the courage

to answer your promptings within us.

We pray, O Holy Spirit, that we may help each other,

That we may have a change of heart,

That we may recognise our weaknesses.

That we may help all those who are in need.

especially those who are near to us.

Help us to do these things in a Spirit of gentleness.

S: Before we go we would just like to congratulate ACCORD on the opening of their new offices last Thursday. President McAleese performed the official opening at St. Munchin’s College in Corbally. Accord’s mission is to empower people, foster relationships and care for couples facing the challenges of Christian Marriage in today’s world. Accord’s services are available to all, irrespective of their ethnic background, religious preferences or ability to pay. As the need for their services continues to grow they would welcome expressions of interest from potential volunteers.
