Second Sunday of Lent - Year C

S: Good morning - this is the second Sunday of Lent and today we’re on about appreciating every moment of life that we have - to see each moment as special, that we would see God present in the highs and lows of each day.

B: Our word of life for today comes from Luke’s Gospel where Jesus goes up a mountain with three of his disciples, a change happens with Jesus and the disciples get a glimpse of something beyond this world and they’re so over-awed that Peter says “Lord, it is wonderful for us to be here”. They wanted to stay at the highpoint of the experience - but they couldn’t - they had to come down from the mountain.

S: This morning our reflection is called “Today”

This is the beginning of a new day,

God has given me this day to use as I will,

I can waste it or use if for good.

What I do today is important for I am

exchanging a day of my life for it.

When tomorrow comes this day will be gone for ever.

Leaving in its place something I have traded for it.

I want it to be gain not loss, good not evil,

Success not failure.

In order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it.

B: This is the story of all out lives isn’t it? Each day is important. There was a video brought out in 1998 to mark Galway’s winning of the Sam Maguire, it was called “A year ‘till Sunday”. The video was making the point that Sundays don’t happen by themselves and that few successes come in just an instance - planning, sacrifice, hard decisions are all part of the lead up to that Sunday in September. Connections have to be made between Sunday and Wednesday, Thursday or Friday - yes we need the Sunday experience - but are we prepared to work for it? Are we prepared to put in the work to make our Sundays memorable, prayerful and joyful, to make them Community events or do we leave it to the managers?

We have a week till Sunday..

S: You’ve been listening to “Just a thought” with Seamus Madigan
