Seventh Sunday - Year C
S: Good morning - today we’re on about compassion and I suppose it is easy to talk - but we must learn to be compassionate and forgiving.
B: Our word of life for today comes from Lukes Gospel “Love your enemies”. Sometimes it is hard enough to even tolerate your enemies but to actually love your enemies - now there is a challenge. To love is to be quite active - it means taking the initiative, and that can be very difficult at times.
S: I guess it can be natural enough to want to stand up and get even with those who upset us - but we also know that this is not the Christian Way. Too often we hear stories - even in our own city & county of people and families trying to get even with each other and the hurt just grows deeper and the hate expresses itself sometimes in violence. It just seems to be an endless downward spiral and what is needed is the compassion and understanding that Jesus asks of us - “Love your enemies”
B: Maybe we could start by being compassionate in the way we speak to each other - think of the names that we sometimes call each other - even at home or the way we talk about each other.
S: This morning we have a reflection called Each Day You Live
Each day you live be grateful you are alive another day…
Take time to gather flowers in abundance to give away.
Give the flowers to the living we were taught long ago…
Speak while they can hear you, if you love them tell them so.
B: Seek no one out to slander or to ridicule their name…
we all belong to Jesus and He loves each one the same.
Do what you can for others, hear their distressful cry…
S: God sees how we treat others, He knows when we pass them by.
Never leave kind words unspoken, greet each one with a smile…
Each day will grow brighter each day more worthwhile.
B: You’ve been listening to “Just a thought” with Brenda Cribbin
S: and Seamus Madigan. We can be contacted through the Limerick Diocesan Offices at Henry Street. You can also download your own copy of this reflection by clicking on limerickdiocese.org
B: We look forward to your company again next week, so take care...
S & B: Bye !!!!!!!
