Sixth Sunday - Year C

S: Good morning - today we’re on about trust, I suppose it is one of the most difficult things to do - to put our trust in God and in others - so much of us wants to put our trust in ourselves, in what we do and in what we have - I guess sometimes you’d wonder if we are more interested in building up treasure for ourselves here on Earth rather than in heaven. To learn to trust is difficult.

B: The theme of trust is running throughout today’s Gospel from Luke, where Jesus gives what is know as the Sermon on the Mount - or the 8 Beatitudes and in the 8 Beatitudes Jesus is asking us and calling us to goodness and trust rather than telling us what we can’t do. This is one of the core stories from the Gospel because it invites us to live our lives in a very different way - to live it full of energy, gratitude, gladness and with love in our hearts.

S: How we live our lives is an important question isn’t it. A good exercise to do sometime might be to write down on a piece of paper when you think your life will end, and then chart how you’d like to live it in the mean time - doing this kind of exercise could be useful for all of us, because it could sharpen our focus and lead us to reflect on what really matters.

B: This morning we have a reflection called “Trusting”

I was about six and got onto the bike;

a small bike, just for my size.

How would I balance? A skill now second nature;

but the first half mile was guided by my father’s hand.

Trust grows for all of us

from the earliest age. And it grows or is damaged.

S: Lord Jesus, help me to trust;

heal broken trust-places in my soul.

Thanks for those who gave me trust;

and thanks for Your faithful friendship to me.

Please, Lord, let me be the type of person

that others will trust. I give them this gift.

In giving it to them, I give it to You.

B: Today is World Day of Prayer for the sick and we send best

wishes and our prayer to our listeners who may be feeling the burden of sickness or old age. Also next Wednesday is Valentine’s Day and we would like to wish a Happy Valentine’s to all of you!!!
