Fourth Sunday - Year C

S: Good morning - today we’re on about speaking up for what you believe in - to be your own self - to be your true self and sometimes, it can be very difficult to be honest and say what is on your mind.

B: Yes it can Seamus - just as when Jesus went back to Nazareth and spoke in the synagogue, at first people thought he was great - but then they turned on Jesus - when they didn’t like what he was saying. So much so that Jesus said “no prophet is ever accepted in his own country. And I guess that it is hard for those closest to us to hear and accept the truth.

S: This morning we have a reflection called “who imagines my life” and I guess it is asking us who really controls me.

I’m caught, Lord; so many pressures.

What I wear, who I’ll vote for,

attitudes to religion, jobs I can get,

points in exams; who is running my life?

I want to be able to make my own decisions,

and live by values I believe in,

when I’m trying to be just and good.

And I think that’s what You want.

B: I want to be drawn, Lord, by the pictures of Your life:

pictures of courage, forgiveness,

constancy and love.

Help me to live in Your dream for me,

Your plans and Your hopes.

Help me to believe these will bring me happiness.

You have come to bring life and bring it to the full.

S: Before we go this morning I’d just like to let you know of a few new things coming up organised by the Diocesan Pastoral Centre; On next Wednesday, 31 st January, they are holding a workshop on music for Holy Week, in the centre on Denmark Street, the same workshop will take place in Newcastle West on Tuesday 8 th February.
