Second Sunday - Year C

S: Good morning - the new year is often a time you hear about people getting engaged isn’t it? And congratulations to all of you who have gotten engaged over the past few weeks.

B: Our word of life for today comes from the wedding feast at Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle. Mary, said to the stewards, “Do whatever he tells you” - and boy what a party they had when Jesus turned the water into wine. Weddings are a time for celebration and they do take some careful planning and everyone wants their wedding day to be special and to go just right.

S: Yes Brenda, from the couples I know who have got married - they really do put a great deal of work into their wedding day - it takes a lot of preparation and people do need all the help they can get. I also know that peoples faces sink when it is suggested that they do a pre-marriage course, but honestly couples do find the courses useful in the planning of their special day, so no need to be afraid - people and courses are there to help you.

B: This morning, we have a reflection called “The Difference”, which stresses the importance of taking a little time each day to plan and to pray.

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day;

I had so much to accomplish that I didn’t have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me, and heavier came each task.

“Why doesn’t God help me?” I wondered.

He answered, “You didn’t ask.”

I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day

toiled on grey and bleak;

I wondered why God didn’t show me,

He said “you didn’t seek.”

I tried to come into God’s presence;

I used all my keys at the lock,

God gently and lovingly chided,

“My child, you didn’t knock.”

I woke up early this morning, and paused before entering the day;

I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.
