Professor William Binchy of Trinity College Dublin will formally launch “What is a Person?” in the Captain’s Room, the Hunt Museum, Limerick, on Monday 30 th of April at 7.30pm.
This compact book explores a fundamental but rarely considered question: What is a human person? The modern world is forcing humanity to face this most basic of all questions.
There seems to be a paradox at the heart of our approach to human life. On the one hand we go to great lengths to preserve human life and reduce suffering but then we seem not very concerned about the question of when this life begins.
Set against the background of the developments in cloning and the ‘production’ of human beings in laboratories this booklet is a very valuable contribution to this debate and outlines the major issues involved.
