A PRAYER TO JESUS LIVING IN HIS PEOPLE
Lord Jesus Christ,
we thank you for calling us to be your brothers and sisters,
members of your Father’s family, united in your Holy Spirit.
Help us to understand that we are not isolated individuals
but a people gathered by you, transformed by you
and sent by you to speak the words of life to the world.
Lord Jesus, you hold the universe in your hands.
We are your people.
Through us may your love touch every corner,
every aspect, every relationship in our lives.
In each area in which we are present
may we be signs of the wonder of God’s love
and of the truth that makes us free.
Lord Jesus you have called all humanity to be your people.
May we place no barriers to your love,
which you offer to every person,
however different, however hostile, however unlikeable,
however unworthy we may think them to be.
May our attitudes and words and actions towards them
allow them to recognise your loving call.
Lord Jesus, even the life of believers
is often lived with little thought of God, ‘as though God did not exist’.
Teach us to look at the world with a contemplative outlook
seeing life as a gift,
discovering in all things the reflection of the Creator,
and recognising your face in every person.
Lord Jesus, living in your people,
draw us closer to you so that the life of our community
may draw ourselves and others closer to you
and prompt us to respond with generosity and courage
in family life, in religious and priestly vocations
and in practical love for those in need at home and abroad.
Lord Jesus, as you were dying on the Cross,
you gave your mother to your beloved disciple, and to us,
to be our mother; the Mother of your Church,
may her intercession and her example lead us
to become ever more fully your Body.
Amen
