The Limerick Diocesan Pastoral Centre opened its doors in November 1994. It was established with the brief of resourcing and being involved in the formation, training and education of adults, young people, priests and religious of the Diocese. Since its inception, the Centre has provided many programmes, not only at the Centre in Denmark Street but at venues throughout the Diocese. Courses on offer are Parish Renewal, Pastoral Development, Theology, Spirituality, Personal Development and Youth Ministry.

As a resource to parishes the Centre organises training for Parish Pastoral Councils, Extraordinary Ministers and Readers. More recently it has assisted parishes in developing Liturgy Groups and Baptism Teams. It also provides workshops for church musicians and choir directors. Youth Ministry activities include Muintearas Íosa weekends, ‘Anois’ programmes for schools and parishes, pilgrimages to Lourdes and World Youth Day. Many of these activities are geared towards Family Support.

The Centre runs a variety of Parenting Programmes. Rainbows, a Children's Bereavement Programme is co-ordinated by the Centre and works with bereaved children or children grieving a separation in their family. With the Mid Western Health Board the Centre has developed a strategy which provides support for those who are bereaved through suicide and is currently developing training for front-line responders. The Centre also provides counselling facilities. It runs a Foundation in Counselling Skills Course, which equips trainees to work in their local environment. The Centre offers conference room and meeting room facilities as a means of supporting work which is already ongoing around the city and diocese by many other groups. During the year the Limerick Diocesan Pastoral Centre publishes a newsletter and listing of events called “Eolas” which may be obtained through a mailing list.
