Polish Community celebrate with joy.

Sunday the 26th of May 2013 was a great day for St Michael’s Parish and the Polish Community who worship there.

Confirmation celebrations

Bishop Leahy was the chief celebrant at Sunday Mass where he confirmed five adult members of the Polish Catholic community.

Relic of Bl John Paul

At the end of the mass there was a very emotional blessing and instalment of a First class Relic of Blessed John Paul the Second. The relic was donated by Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Krakow. His representative at the ceremony on Sunday, Mr. Zbigniew, recalled the Popes memorable visit to Limerick and expressed his hope that the presence of this relic would bring consolation, encouragement and hope to all who come here to pray through Blessed John Paul’s intercession.

Bishop Kazimierz Gorny of the Diocese of Rzeszow (Fr Andrzj's home diocese) also sent a letter of congratulations and encouragement to the polish community.

Shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes

There was also a blessing of a shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes which was built by Polish craftsmen.

Polish Pastoral Centre

The final act of the day was the opening of the “Blessed John Paul the Second Polish Centre” which will be used for Pastoral and cultural activities.

Bishop Leahy commended Fr. Andrzj Stroka for his joyful zeal in his ministry as Polish Chaplain and congratulated the fifty volunteers who committed to the project. Fr. Kirwan, Parish Priest of St Michael’s, was thanked for his warm welcome and ongoing support of the Polish Community.
