ERB Call for Submissions

Education about Religions and Beliefs (ERB) and Ethics

A public consultation, please find out more and be part of this conversation!

The proposal to develop a curriculum in ERB and Ethics was recommended by the Final Report of the Forum on Patronage and Pluralism in the Primary Sector.

As part of this, the NCCA published a consultation paper in November 2015 and a consultation on the proposals for this new curriculum is now open and will continue into spring 2016.

During our own local consultation it became obvious that while supporting the concept of Education about Religions and Beliefs members of the education community had some concerns regarding the proposal (please click on the links below to view some of the opinions expressed). The proposed introduction of ERBE is a potentially significant change in the Irish primary school system, as such we would like to encourage people to become engaged in the consultation process.

There is the option to complete an online survey on www.ncca.ie/consultation/erbe but an advisory group gathered by the Council for Catechetics of the Irish Bishops’ Conference and the CatholicSchools Partnership suggest that written submissions would be the better option.

If you click on the link below you will find further information on this process:

- Flyer from our diocese' inviting parents and education partners to make written submissions

- Poster inviting written submissions

- NCCA website with questionairre, FAQ and video.

- If you would like to make a written submission, here is a template that outlines the areas involved. Feel free to print this off to work with, and to contact us for support or with questions.
