Lent 2016 - resources

Lent is a great time for small groups to come together and reflect on Sunday Scriptures. Here are two free and accessible programs that you might like to use. Please don't wait for someone else to organise a gathering - feel welcome to download this material, to prayerfully prepare and invite fellow parishioners toegther, and to be blessed by a scripture sharing group this Lent.

Please note that fresh Lenten resources are added weekly via  the free weekly diocesan newsletter. Sign up at www.limerickdiocese.org/newsletter-signup.html

From Killaloe Diocese:  Hearing, Happening, Hoping 2016

"Lent is a graced time for listening to and reflecting on God’s Word, especially on the Sunday Gospels. We are told on the first Sunday of Lent that we do not ‘live on bread alone’ but on God’s Word.  We are encouraged then to put reflecting on God’s Word at the centre of our Lenten practices. ...Those involved in the various parish ministries will find this approach to praying with the Scriptures enriching and nourishing.  In some parishes the Ministers of the Word and Scripture Study Groups use it to help deeper their love and understanding of the Scriptures. In other parishes the one page resource Hearing, Happening, Hoping, is made available with the parish newsletter each week or left for taking at the back of the Church."

The first three sessions of this years 'Hearing, Happening, Hoping' are now available.

From Justin Harkin at the Diocese of EphinTURNING OUR HEARTS TO THE LORD

Since 2008 small groups of adults, women and men, have gathered weekly during Advent and Lent for a time of shared prayer and reflection. The diocese of Elphin has sought to be supportive through provision of two resources which we share with a number of other dioceses, i.e. Tuam, Clonfert, Achonry, Limerick, Kerry, Waterford, Armagh and Ardagh & Clonmacnois. The two resources are:

(i) a booklet containing the Evening Prayer of the Church for each week (this remains the same every year. These booklets are available while stocks last from Justin Harkin.  He may be contacted @ 087 6171526 / justin@elphindiocese.ie)

(ii) a set of two-page handouts that contain the Gospel passages proclaimed at Sunday Masses and related reflections. (this changes every year).  These handouts are downloadable HERE Our  writers on this occasion are:

1st  Sunday:  Fr. Peter Okpetu, Missionary Society of St. Paul (Kilmore Diocese)
2nd Sunday:   Sr. Mae McManus RSM  (Elphin Diocese)
3rd Sunday:    Sr. Moya Hegarty OSU  (Elphin Diocese)
4th Sunday:    Ms Mary Dee (Waterford & Lismore Diocese)
5th Sunday:    Fr. Declan O'Loughlin (Armagh Diocese)
