Advent Reflection Resources

There are many resources available in paper and online for prayer during Advent. Two resources are created here in Ireland for prayer groups who would like to reflect together on the Sunday Gospels. There are also a number of excellent talks series across the diocese in Advent (see calendar). Please share these ideas and resources so that all might have the opportunity to benefit. Thank you.

Turning our Hearts to the Lord - An Advent scripture reflection course for 2015

Since 2008 Elphin Diocese has offered two resources to small groups of adults, women and men, who would like to gather weekly during Advent and Lent for a time of shared prayer and reflection:

(i) a booklet containing the Evening Prayer of the Church for each week
(ii) a set of one-page handouts that contain the Gospel passages proclaimed at Sunday Masses and related reflections.

The (black covered) booklets, which can used every year, are available from Justin Harkin (087 6171526 / justin@elphindiocese.ie).  The handouts containing the Gospel passages and reflections can be downloaded here:

An Advent gift: Hearing, Happening, Hoping!

HEARING HAPPENING HOPING is a support for reading and praying the Sunday Gospel during Advent. It is a three step process which can be used individually or with a group to reflect on the Sunday Gospel text.

A one page guide for each of the four Sundays of Advent is available on the Killaloe Diocesan website http://www.killaloediocese.ie/diocesan-news/hearing-happening-hoping-a-resource-for-advent.html.

If you or a group you know would like to do something to prepare to welcome Christ at Christmas this resource will help you.  The aim is to help people to come face-to-face with God’s Word. It is not a Bible course, but a focus for reading, reflecting and praying.  It requires no training—the Word is already in our hearts. Just try it!   Hearing Happening Hoping can be downloaded and printed out for use by groups. Some parishes leave copies at the back of the Church while others give out copies with the Sunday newsletter.
