Advent 2013

Taking Our Hearts to the Lord

Scripture Sharing Group Resources

Since 2006 small groups of adults across the western diocese of Ireland have gathered weekly during Advent and Lent in parish meeting rooms, family homes and other settings to pray either the Morning or Evening Prayer of the Church together and to reflect upon the Gospel passages proclaimed at Sunday Mass.

The black and white books created by the Diocese of Elphin, with contributions from across the country, have become treasured resources in many Limerick parishes.

New Groups, and groups unfamiliar with the Morning and Evening Prayer of the Church, can acquire special black booklets  to help them them started by contacting Noirin in the Pastoral Centre on 061 400133

Established and new groups who use the Morning and Evening Prayer Book of the Church are encouraged to replace the Scripture Reading of the day with a proclamation of the Sunday Gospel and a related reflection (see files below) and to spend time pondering both in silence before sharing their related thoughts and prayers.

The time spent in prayer together tends to be thirty to forty minutes.

The following downloadable files contain the Sunday Gospel passages and related reflections for Advent 2013

Our thanks to Fr. Eamonn O'Connor (Tarmonbarry), Fr. Pat Lombard (St. Mary's), Sr. Moya Hegarty OSU (St. Joseph's & Calry, Sligo) and Bernie Burke (Riverstown) for providing this year's reflections.  Huge thanks to Justin Harkin, Diocese of Elphin
