CORPUS CHRISTI

25 th May 2008

S: Good morning this weekend we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi, the feast of the body and blood of Christ. Today we are joined by Sr.Fidelama Pernderville, of The Little Company of Mary in Milford.

B: Jesus said ‘I am the living bread which has come down from Heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever.

D: We are a pilgrim people, drawing strength from our communion on the journey..Our communion with each other and our communion with Jesus, the living bread.

B: An old name for the Eucharist is viaticuum. It means , food for the journey. The Eucharist is the living bread that sustains us, that nourishes the spirit, that gives life to the tired body of God’s people, as they make their sometimes difficult way together

D: This day we pray for all those who are tired by the journey, for all the people of God, that they may draw strength from Jesus, the living bread, food for our journey

B At this time of year we pray for a special group of people on a special journey at this time of the summer exams. As Chaplains, David and I both experience the day to day joys and struggles of these students. We would like to let you know that you are always welcome in the Church community and to thank them for their participation in all our Communities.

B : Our reflection this morning is taken from the prayer book, ‘Companion for the journey’ , produced by the little company of Mary together with lay people in Milford Care Centre

Sr. Fidelma :

Never Hopeless

As life goes on from day to day

And God is very near

There’s no place for hopelessness

There is no need to fear.

Lift up your eyes, behold the skies

The bright, the dark, the dim.

Whatever weather there may be

It is ordained by Him.

Do not condemn yourself too much

For wrongs that you have done

It may deplete your moral strength

In battles to be won.

Lift up your heart, have faith in God

And say a fervent prayer

For as you trust in him,

So he will keep you in his prayer.

B: You’ve been listening to "Just a thought" with Brenda Cribbin, Sr Fidelma,
