Pentecost Sunday – Year A

11 th May 2008

D: Good Morning. This weekend we celebrate Whit weekend and is Pentecost Sunday, a Day in which we celebrate the Spirit of God in our lives. Today we are joined by Sr.Fidelama Pernderville, of The Little Company of Mary in Milford

B: Our Word of Life for today comes from John’s Gospel -

“Receive the Holy Spirit”

These words were spoken by Jesus to the disciples who were living in fear, had locked themselves behind closed doors, were terrified for their lives and what lay outside.

The Spirit of God changed everything. The doors opened and the Disciples became people of Courage.

D: I guess they stopped looking back at Calvary and wondering where it had all gone wrong, and with the Spirit, they gained the courage and confidence to move forward. The closed doors were no longer an obstacle. The Spirit gives us life and frees us from closed doors that imprison us and our reflection this morning has to do with doors being kept closed because of fear.

B: Our reflection this morning is taken from the prayer book, ‘Companion for the journey’ , produced by the little company of Mary together with lay people in Milford Care Centre.

B: Before we go this morning we would like to congratulate all the young people who have received their confirmation this year. The spirit of God gives us the courage to be brave – we pray that you may be brave and continue to speak up for what is good and what is right especially in school and at home.

D: You have been listening to Just a Thought with David Bracken

B: Brenda Cribbin and Sr.Fidelama Prenderville. We can be contacted through the Limerick Diocesan Offices at Henry Street. If you would like a copy of this reflection you can download it by clicking on www.limerickdiocese.org.

If you would like your own copy of the prayer book ‘Companion for the journey, you can obtain it from Milford Care Centre or the Knock Shrine Bureau in Little Catherine Street, Limerick

D: We look forward to your company again next week, in the meantime, take care.

D, B and Sr.Fidelama: Slan!!
