14 th Sunday - Year C
S: Good morning - this weekend we’re on about Peace and we’re also conscious that people are either on holidays or preparing to go on holidays as they look for a bit of time out to refresh themselves.
B: Our word of life for today comes from Luke’s Gospel, “Peace to this house”. There are many things that can destroy peace in our homes, - Drink, late hours, financial worries, arguments, lack of appreciation, lack of communication, lack of prayer – I’m sure there are others, but to rebuild peace what might we do? I suppose the first thing to realize is that there can be no world peace without soul peace, so I guess developing an inner peace is where it starts.
S: Peace is one of the signs of the kingdom of God and is meant to be the mark of all Christians, we are all asked to do our best to build up peace, and we don’t have to be world experts at it either – in fact, peace is something which experts cannot corner for themselves – it’s really a currency in all our pockets. Anyway, lots of people seem to be off on holidays these days and we hope that you do get a good break. Brenda, you have a summer reflection for us.
B: This is my summer prayer for you.
Take it with you and keep it in your mind and heart.
As you make choices about places to go
Or about your friends, don’t compromise your values,
Don’t compromise yourself,
And go with God, for God, knows your value.
As you enjoy the summer sun
And the summer’s cool blue waters, be wise and be safe.
Respect the beauty of the earth as God’s gift to you,
And go with God, for God has created you.
As you go to quiet places to reflect and to pray,
To enjoy the peace and beauty of private space and time-off,
Go with God, for God always goes with you.”
S: You’ve been listening to “Just a thought” with Seamus Madigan
