Fifth Sunday of Lent - Year C

S: Good morning - today is the 5th Sunday of Lent, and today we’re on about forgiveness and fasting.

B: Our word of life for today is from John’s Gospel “go away and don’t sin anymore”. In other words - be on your way, all is okay. and I suppose that is the whole message of Jesus - life is too short to hold grievances and grudges.

S: yeah, I guess that we can often be hurt by the past, disappointed with the present or even afraid of the future - we can even be afraid that our lives might be wasted that the hurt may not heal and our prayer this morning could be “Take us to yourself Lord, take our past, our present and our future.

B: Lent is a time for fasting - but its also a time for feasting, now you might be surprised to hear the word feasting in connection with Lent but this mornings reflection might explain what we mean.

S: Lent is a season in which we can ...

Fast from judging others;

B: feast on the Christ dwelling in them.

S: Fast from emphasis on differences;

B: feast on the unity of life.

S: Fast from thoughts of illness;

B: feast on the healing power of God

S: Fast from discontent;

B: feast on gratitude.

S: Fast from anger;

B: feast from patience.

S: Fast from pessimism;

B: feast on optimism.

S: Fast from complaining;

B: feast on appreciation.

S: Fast from negatives;

B: feast on affirmatives.

S: Fast from bitterness;

B: feast on forgiveness.

S: Fast from self-concern;

B: feast on compassion for others.

S: Fast from discouragements;
